We received an MDB file. Is there a way to create linework from the mdb file?

I believe that's a Microsoft Database File, so I doubt if you could generate linework. If there are coordinate values in the *.mdb file, you might be able to import it into excel, cut out what you don't need, and save it as a *.csv file and import it and generate linework with field2finish, depending on what package you're using.
Maybe someone else can be more helpful, particularly with some additonal info.

Land desktop uses MDB files for their coordinates. We have an import LDD MDB to Carlson CRD in points->convert point format.

This is most likely what ESRI terms a "personal geodatabase" which is the single database equivalent of a shapefile (set of files including .SHP, .IDX, .DBF which is a DBase format database file, .PRJ, etc.).

The .MDB will contain everything that is normally contained in the older shapefile format, but to use it you need someone with ArcMAP to load it and resave to shapefile format. Then you will need all the associated files that go along with the shapefile, not just the .SHP file.
