Shape Files into ARC GIS EXPLORER

I have been trying to export shape file from Carlson GIS

I can read the file into Mapinfo but when I try to open in ARC GIS Explorer error message no coord system set

Mapinfo prompts you to select the coord system.

I have tried all possible settings in Carlson and autocad to set the coord system ( Drawing Settings in Carlson and assign coord system in Autocad Map)

I have been reading the shape file into Mapinfo, setting the coord system, them creating aother shape file from Mapinfo then reading this shape file into ARCGIS Explorer

Any ideas

I have done the exact some thing on several occasions. There has to be a better way....
