Are the Carlson Survey and Roads newsgroups working? I haven't been able to
get into them for a while. I see a few old messages, but if I try to open
them, Ii get the message that they are expired.

They are up and running. I see you are using Outlook Express. Go to the properties of each group and choose the "Local File" tab, then choose "Reset". This will clear all the messages off your machine and force OE to reload from our server.
