Earlier this year or late last year (I don't remember the date) an Engineer
Tech, a Survey Draftsman and myself were sent to an AutoDesk seminar held
here in Virginia Beach. The main event of their dog-and-pony show was Land
Desktop 3, but near the end they touched on AutoDesk Survey - the standalone
product for surveyors. It was, for all intents and purposes, Carlson
Survey. All the surveyors in the room erupted when they found out that it
was capable of functions that they had been requesting for Land Desktop and
were irate that LD hadn't implemented them yet (in particular the best fit
curve routines in field to finish). I noticed right away that the menus and
screen shots were Carlson, and told them so during a break, as well as
giving them the web address, etc of Carlson. I don't know if it generated
any sales or even inquiries, but it did serve to knock Softdesk down a few
pegs with some of the local surveyors!
