SurvCE

We are currently demoing a Carlson Explorer. It is truly fantastic. We are
interested in its' GPS capabilities as well but use older Trimble gear
(4400). Using the Trimble 4000 instrument setting, I can connect to the
receivers but cannot set them up for RTK. The manual is not very
descriptive on the interoperation of the two. To your knowledge, has this
ever been attempted? If so, was it successful? Is the lack of support for
these older receivers because of Trimbles lack of cooperation? If the
latter is the case, is programming SurvCE for use with these receivers
something that Carlson would be interested in? We might be willing to loan
our receivers for that task.

Thank you.

Rob,
Try selecting Trimble GPS General as your instrument under the
Equipment Pulldown. When you're configuring the Base and Rover choose Other
as your receiver type.

Thanks for the reply. I tried that yesterday and was unsuccessful. I am,
however, going to try it again this weekend as well as some of the other
settings. I was tired, cold and frustrated at the end of yesterday and gave
up too quickly.

I had no luck this weekend getting the two to communicate using the Trimble
GPS General. I tried them with different com settings and different com
ports. Using the Trimble 4000 GPS, I can communicate through serial port 1
on the receiver at a baud rate of 38,400. The manual says 9600. I can't
get them to communicate at 9600. Using Trimble's Remote Controller software
on a PC, I can look at all of the receiver settings and port 1 is configured
for 9600. If I change the baud rate for port 1 to 38,400, the receiver
hangs and then appears to warm re-boot. Any other suggestions?

Thanks
