Carlson civil software without AutoCAD

Postby michael_k » Fri Aug 03, 2007 9:43 pm

I've used AutoCAD LDT and Civil 3d for several years and am fed up with
the yearly upgrades, relearning, etc. Civil 3d 2008 over 170 bug fixed in
the SP1.

Is there a package that does not work inside AutoCAD. A stand alone
system?

Try Carlson Survey, or Carlson Civil Standalone. Here is link to it:
http://www.carlsonsw.com/PL_CS_Survey_AutoCAD.html For the Survey
software. You want the "AutoCAD inside" version.
OR
http://carlsonsw.com/PL_CS_CivilSuite.html For the entire Civil design
suite. (You can buy what you need separately too) This entire package is
only $3500 though, as opposed to $10k+ for Autodesk stuff.

Unfortunately, all software companies are going to this subscription
(extortion) type service. Which I, like you, don't like. Personally, I
just use google.com, or a handy newsgroup for service to software.

I should also note that I am using a Carlson Survey 2004 package that
amazingly still does what I need to do. Even though there have three
major updates since we purchased this.

Keep in mind that the Carlson "standalone" software is built on AutoCAD
OEM. So as AutoCAD changes and upgrades, so does Carlson's "standalone"
software.

Subscription (and/or "maintenance") does allow you to budget your annual
software costs. No (major) surprises.

Hello Michael,
So far I have not found a stand alone package that will do everything tha
carlson will do.
You can run Carlson on top of basic AutoCAD - less updates and relearning
with basic CAD. I use mostly the items in Carlson more so then CAD
anyway. Just a thought.

Hello Doug,
From my understanding - Carlson standalone still sits on top of AutoCAD -
You get both (Carlson and AutoCAD) with the standalone package. The
Carlson Module is just Carlson and is shipped to those that already have
AutoCAD.
