Why do drawings take so long to open?

Postby draftsmantls » Wed Apr 16, 2008 8:47 pm

Hello,
I have an hp pavilion w/windows xp and 1 gb of ram. Recently I've been having a problem with drawings taking forever to open. By that, I mean after I click on open it takes a long time for the dialog box that allows me to select the drawing to be opened, to pop up. I have compared this computer with our laptop which has the exact same amount of ram and operating system as the desktop and as soon as you click on open it brings up the select file to open dialog box. The laptop even has more programs running in the background and a higher system idle than the desktop does. So I was wondering what would cause my civil/survey 2008 to all of a sudden run so slow. Thanks for any input.

Here is an excelent article on tracking down this kind of problem:

Often, a slow file open dialog results from the program searching and searching for a support file that it cannot find.
