I have been in the process of configuring all of my settings for my upgrade to carlson 09 with map 09. In the past, I would edit srvpno5.dwg in the support folder so the text would be rotated 45 deg counterclockwise when I ran field to finish. For some reason the text comes in horizontal instead of 45 deg. I have checked for srvpno5.dwg elsewhere and my attribute layout ID is set for 5 in my field code definition, yet it still won't come in the way I want. I have done this successfully many times in the past. It just won't seem to do it with 09.

Your help will keep any more hair from falling out.

I just tried to replicate your problem and it does in fact happen on my computer as well. If I figure something out I'll let you know.

I think there are 2 places you may find the attribute files, the one that you should change is in this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\Application Data\Carlson Software\Carlson2009\R17.1(or the number of your autocad)\SUP
