Autocad text/drawing setup problems saving down frm Carlson

Looking for a little help. Our office just got Carlson last week and I haven't had a chance to fully research everything. I am running Carlson 2012 7.1 I believe and Autocad 2004. When I save down to 2004 and open in cad I cannot assosiate the drawing to use the drawing setup and all text is symbols. I have to manually change text sytle each time. We are using intellicad.
