Is there section in the manual that describes how to create a new linetype?

How to create custom Line Types in CGSoftware

Postby bwilson » Thu Nov 01, 2007 12:38 pm

There are a variety of Linetype Definition files that are come with the CG Survey program. The default location for these files is:

C:\Program Files\CGSurvey 8\Support\ or a similar path depending on the version of the C&G software you have.

The linetype definition files will have *.lin extension and are named

CgLineDefs.Lin, CgSu.lin or CgSuiso.Lin depending on the release version of your C&G software

Below are examples of the line type definitions that you will see in one of the CglineDefs.lin files.

*CG_L,CG Long Dash ______ ______ ______ ______
A,0.75,-.25,.75,-.25

*CG_FENCELINE,Fence line ----X----X----X----X----X----X--
A,.5,-.2,[" X",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25

Example:

Let’s say you need to create a line type with the text “GAS” in the line so to look like this:

-------------------- GAS -------------------- GAS -------------------- GAS --------------------

To create a new linetype definition you can (using Notepad or WordPad) simple open CglineDefs.lin (or one of the other appropriate files listed above) and follow the steps below.

1. Once the linetype document is open you can create a NEW linetype definitions by simple highlighting and copying an existing linetype definition

*CG_LONG_DASH_T,CG Long Dash(with T) ----T----T----T----
A,.5,-.2,[" T",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25
*CG_LONG_DASH_B,CG Long Dash(with B) ----B----B----B----
A,.5,-.2,[" B",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25
*CG_LONG_DASH_W,CG Long Dash(with W) ----W----W----W----
A,.5,-.2,[" W",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25
*CG_LONG_DASH_D,CG Long Dash(with D) ----D----D----D----
A,.5,-.2,[" D",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25

2. And then paste the copied lines to the end of the file.

*CG_LONG_DASH_W,CG Long Dash(with W) ----W----W----W----
A,.5,-.2,[" W",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25
*CG_LONG_DASH_D,CG Long Dash(with D) ----D----D----D----
A,.5,-.2,[" D",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25
*CG_LONG_DASH_D,CG Long Dash(with D) ----D----D----D----
A,.5,-.2,[" D",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25

(note the last two lines are a duplicate of the two previous lines)

3. Now the text of the pasted lines can be edited to reflect the changes needed to show “GAS” rather than “D” and also change the spacing

*CG_GAS,CG GAS line (with GAS) ---- GAS -------- GAS ----
A,.75,-.2,[" GAS",STANDARD,S=.1,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.2

4. Note the changes on the second line to the “numbers”. In this case the “.75” is the length of the line between the “GAS” text. The “-.2” is the space between the end of line and the beginning of the text. The information inside the [] is the insert information and the “-.2” at the end of the line is the space between the end of text and the beginning of the line. And the process continues to repeat for the length of the line selected.

5. Once the changes have been made be sure and save the file.
