C&G crashes when removing points

Postby BillyD » Fri Sep 28, 2001 6:23 pm

I'm running CGWin, Ver. 5.50.03 on a HP 500 mhz Pentium III w/128 megs ram. My program crashes when removing points also, so I followed your suggestion from a previous post to download and install the libraries update file from Microsoft. I believe that this fixes the problem with the program crashing when removing points, however, ever since I installed the updated file, I have a problem with printing the print file. What happens is that when I do a print/preview, I get the following message: "Failed to create empty document" and Wordpad will not open. The only way that I have been able to print the print file is to uninstall Wordpad, then reinstall Wordpad and everything is ok as long as I don't exit CGWindows. If I do, I have to repeat the un-install,re-install of Wordpad in order to print. Any suggestions

Bill try cvhanginf the path of the print file to c root level or
c:printer.txt
let me know if this works, be advised it will reset on a new drawing to old path and you will need to reset it.

The question is, does wordpad give you the same error when trying to open it without being in C&G?

Wordpad is a Windows based program and C&G only makes a call to open a certain file with wordpad.

Try opening the same printer.txt file in wordpad from explorer if it works form there then try going into C&G and opening the same file. If it crashes in C&G and not explorer that there is a problem with the call to wordpad that C&G is making. If they both crash then it is a problem with your window instulation and you should try installing windows again. You may also want to use windows automatic update feature to go online and get all the latest updates. In some windows versions, 98 and 2000, there is a Windows update button under the start button. The link below will take you to Microsofts web site there is a wealth of knowledge there on updates and FAQ's etc

try this reset the path in output options to c:printer.txt then type in cgdf to clear the file then list coordinates and try to go to print then. I had this proplem and fixed it in this manner. Afterwards use explorer to delete the printer.txt located in your data folder

Jeff, I tried your suggestion, but this doesn't work either. Also, I don't think I mentioned that wordpad will not open out of CGWin either. It's like it has something to do with the Windows library update that I downloaded as per Richard's earlier suggestion for fixing the delete-points-crash problem with 5.50.03 version. I believe that's when the problem started. Thanks for your suggestions.

We have herd from some other people with the same problem that when they did a virus scan they had the NIMDA virus and when remove solved the problem. You may want to give this a try. I will include a link to some information on the NIMDA virus
