5.50.04 question

Postby Stacy Carroll » Sat Jan 12, 2002 1:17 pm

Jeff sent me the 5.50.04 upgrade a few weeks ago. I've been too "gun shy" to install it yet. With most of the other patches, problems were fixed, but others appeared. Anyone having problems with 5.50.04? I'd like fair warning before installing...

Steve,

I've been tempted to just install it.... I just hate to have to go back. All those settings to change.

Yes, I bought 3 promark2 units. It's opened up a whole new world for this ole country boy. I've done a lot of experimenting with them and will do my first "paying" GPS job on Monday. I've set pairs of control points at each end of route surveys(using a ground system instead of Grid) that checked really well with the TS. Shockingly well, I might add. We checked elevations within 0.02' running trig levels 1 mile between pairs. The horizontal only differed by 0.15'. I told the crew that the error was in the TS survey but they insist that it's the GPS..

We got three Locus units almost two years ago and they continue to amaze me. We don't use them everyday but about a third of the time. We do mostly boundary work.

I was just wondering how you handle combining data from the GPS with your conventional TS work.
I have always held the GPS cords (gnd) good and then do an adj in Starnet with the TS raw file trying to get as much redundancy as possible, like shoot dists between GPS control pairs or run legs between GPS points when needed. This has worked well but I'm always looking for new ideas.

Have fun... Steve

Steve,

That's basically what we've been doing. I had to experiment for a while to trust the GPS. Just like my dad didn't trust the first EDM's he used. I'm still a little apprehensive and do a lot of double checking. Since you are more experienced, I'll let you try out the new ideas.
