I had a com port added to my computer... Now I can't get the computer to recognize the hardware lock. Any suggestion

Dave any number of things could cause the block to lose reconition with the computer but I would not think adding a comport would cause this. Can another computer reconize the block? If not trhe block may just be bad. Coroption of the block can be caused by zip drives or any highspeed transfer.
