creating point files

How do you create points in a new drawing?......I am confused because if it is as simple as going to Auto Create Points, then what do I do when it asks me to open a coordinate file

Go to your tool bar and select "file", then "coordinate files", then "new". this will allow you to create a coordiante file if you don't already have one. Otherwise select "open" and open the existing coordinate file
