I've been working on that very same thing in windows 2000. You may already
know this, but C&G DOS needs to access the external ports directly. Windows
includes a "hardware abstraction layer" which acts as a liaison between the
programs and the ports. C&G DOS refuses to acknowledge the Windows HAL and
so Windows denies port access to C&G DOS. I believe C&G could publish a
very simple update to resolve this issue. I somehow don't think that will
happen. So after much research, I've discovered a program called PortTalk.
It's a wrapper program that lets any program you wish to have direct access
to the ports. You should be able to find the program at
http://www.beyondlogic.org/porttalk/porttalk.htmThe documentation isn't that great. You can get the port addresses from the
device manager. (control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager )
Double click the port in question and go to the resources tab. The address
is the first number in the input-output range.
I hope this can get you started.

Has anyone successfully ran the DOS version of C&G under Windows XP? How
did you do it? Was the Hardware Lock recognized?
I have a new Athlon based computer with XP on it as well as a dual boot to
98SE. I cannot seem to get the DOS version to find the Hardware Lock
under
either operating system. Any suggestions?
I have not had any trouble running the DOS version under 98SE before.
