C&G for AutoCAD 2002

Postby Barry Bacon, PLS » Tue Apr 01, 2003 8:19 am

Due to AutoCAD version conflicts with some of our clients, I am finally
biting the bullet and upgrading from C&G for Windows in Intellicad98 to
CG-SURVEY for AutoCAD 2002. Installation and authorization of AutoCAD
2002 have gone flawlessly. As usual (most of you know what is coming
next), when I install the C&G software I start having problems. I am
using WindowsXP Home Edition.

After the C&G logo appears, I get a program (not operating system) error
message stating that the serial number is either invalid or missing, and
C&G is being terminated. A box to re-enter the serial number pops up,
but entry of the AutoCAD product serial number just makes an 'invalid
serial number' message pop back up. Although the C&G pulldowns remain
on the screen, none of them work.

I see from the message board that I will need to do something additional
to make XP recognize the hardware lock, but I'm not even getting to the
'demo mode' notice. It craps out before that. This appears to be a
problem with C&G communicating properly with AutoCAD 2002. Anybody else
had this problem?

A few thoughts....

If C&G requires a S/N, there shouldn't be any hardware lock.

You should have an AutoCAD serial number (something like 400-12345678) and a
CG serial number. Be sure you are inputting the right S/N in the right
place. The only time the AutoCAD S/N is required is during it's
installation.

Also, note that AutoCAD 2002 is NOT supported on WinXP Home.

I don't know if C&G requires a serial number or not - all we got was a
CD in a clear plastic case with a C&G/Carlson label on it. There was no
documentation, no installation instructions, no system requirements,
nothing. If it is in fact C&G that is requesting a serial number at
startup, you sure can't tell from the error message. As for a hardware
lock, I can't tell until I get past this initial startup problem.

Seeing as how WindowsXP is the operating system shipping with most every
new computer these days, what is the proper combination of AutoCAD and
C&G software that IS supported running in XP?

AutoCAD 2004 is supported on XP Home and Pro. AutoCAD 2002 is only supported
on the Pro version. It should work OK on the Home version though.
