Lost messages in Carlson.c_g newsgroup

Postby Steven O'Brien » Thu Apr 01, 2004 3:58 am

I seem to have lost all the newsgroup messages from around January 8, 2004
on in the carlson.c_g newsgroup. I synchronize the newsgroup and tell
Outlook Express to download all messages but the messages still end at Jan.
8. What's going on? Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

There are 1106 messages on the server, the oldest message is dated 09/06/2001. Since you are using OE, go to Tools | Options | Maintenance and check all the options there. OE likes to automatically clean up for you sometimes.

Steve, how did you get all messages? I've tweaked everything I can find, and
it's only giving me the newest seven.

Well, it was sort of a clicking frenzy, but here's what I think I did:

In Outlook Express:
Mark all messages as being read in the newsgroup, then go to
Tools/Options/Maintenance tab and check "delete message bodies in
Newsgroups"
OE should delete all the messages in the newsgroup
once they are gone highlight carlson.c_g and choose to synchronize the
newsgroup but make sure you have selected "All messages". OE will then
re-download all the messages to your computer. After I did all that I went
back to the maintenance tab and unselected the delete option and also
changed the synchronize option to new messages.

I "think" this should work for you but if anyone knows an easier or more
direct way I hope they'll chime in. I probably forgot something critical so
let me know if it works.
