Old CGField Files and new AutoCAD

Postby Daryl Spillmann » Tue Apr 27, 2004 8:53 pm

We have a lot of OLD .RAW and .CRD files that were produced with
CG-FieldPlus v3.42. I am trying to import this data into AutoCAD 2004
using the Survey package and TDS SurveyLink 7.14. So far I haven't had
any luck.

Anyone got any tips or advice?

Thanks

Daryl,

To which "Survey package" are you referring? C&G for Windows/AutoCAD? If
so, the coordinate files are already compatible, and the field files only
need to be converted to a .cgr format (from .raw) before they can be
reduced. If you are trying to get C&G field and coordinate files into
another package or into generic AutoCAD, good luck. You'll soon discover
why C&G files are NOT included on the conversion lists of all the other
major "players" in the survey/civil software community!

The "survey package" refers to a disk that came with the Auto Desk
suite. In this package was included a TDS Survey Link DC 7.14. It has
a conversion utility that allegedly can convert C&G .CRD files to TDS or
other formats. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case. When
I try to convert the .crd file, I get an error of "Point not found in
C:<filename>"

A review if TDS's website bulletin board noted that they didn't support
this format (which makes me wonder why that option is in their software).

Our old version of CG-Survey (v14 circa 1998) doesn't seem to be
compatible with our latest version of AutoCad (2004).

We use our surveying equipment only once every few years so we're really
not looking to spend a lot of money to upgrade (replace) our handheld
and associated software. Antiques 'r us.

Does anyone have an easy workaround to get this C&G .RAW or .CRD into an
ASCII, .csv, or other format?

C&G for autocad allows you to export coordinates to ascii file (fron the
file menu. You can then import ascii file to coordinates. You didn't say
if you had C&G for Autocad or not so I don't know if this helps
