I'm currently running C&G Survey for Windows v 6.0 with Autodesk Technology.
I recently made a drawing (symbol) for a water valve. It was simply a
circle with a "V" in it. I placed the drawing in the "symbols" subdirectory
for C&G Survey 6.0 where the other C&G symbols are located. I went to my
Description Table and put in all the appropriate information. In the "Point
Attributes" section of the Description Table, I typed in "VALVE" in the
symbol field. Then when I would plot water valves on my drawing, I would
get a symbol that we traditionally use for a water valve. No problem.
However, this morning I was reducing a raw file. I tried several times to
reduce the file, but the program kept locking up. Then, it would shut down
and take me back to my desktop. Finally I notice a message in the little
text message window that read "VALVE BLOCK REFERENCES ITSELF." I went in to
the Description Table and changed the "VALVE" to a C&G symbol and there was
no more problem. The raw file reduced great.
I guess my question is: Is there a way to create a symbol that can be read
by the Description Table so that the symbol will plot when a raw file is
reduced? If so, how do I do that? Do I make a dwg file of the symbol or
what? And where do I put it? Any help from anyone would be appreciated!!!
