Copying Job still links to old job

Postby Col Cadman » Thu Dec 07, 2006 4:06 am

If you take a copy of a job the jobname.ini file still contains links to
the original job. If there are several files linked to the job all these
files have to copied separately. This is very cumbersome. I would like
to see copies of the linked files being created or at least the option
to copied linked files.

I have now struck another more difficult and serious program bug. If a
copy of a job is taken using save as, and a copy of the crd file is made
and the ini file is edited to remove all traces of the original, some
internal linkage still occurs to the original jobname.

Having taken the above steps I tried to move a point under the points
menu, and an error came up saying it could not find the the crd file.
It was looking for the original jobname.crd not the new jobname. This
concerns me as there must some file embedded which is not being changed
when the save as command is issued. I don't think I would have seen the
problem had I not taken the file to my home computer where I have a
different directory structure. The move point command error was looking
to a different directory. I have notice this in the move command at this
stage.

Has anyone else had similar problem with copying jobs?

Relative pathnames

On a similar note, it would be nice if, once a project directory was created
with all files appurtenant to the *.dwg therein, and said folder was copied
or moved to another directory, the software knew where to find the support
files. By support files I mean *.ini, *.crd, *.tr, etc. This is a great
feature of ESRI software and would be appreciated in any Civil/Survey CAD
software as well.

For instance, I have a Project directory with three subdirectories Drawing,
Survey Files, and Alignement Files. My *.dwg and*.ini are in one, my *.pro
files and centerline files are in another and my *.rw5 and *.crd are in the
last. The *.ini file tells the software where to find the other files. If
in the *.dwg or *.ini I could specify "relative pathnames", no matter what
drive or higher up directory I saved the Project folder in, the software
would be able to find the other "support" files, relative to the Project
directory. There are no broken "links". This is great for moving data to
laptops or back and forth from the office to home.
