Suggestion for future release

Postby Terry Strickland » Sun Feb 13, 2005 10:22 pm

I would like to say, first of all, I am a pleased user of carlson survey
2004, although I miss some of the commands in core autocad, particularly
user coordinate systems and external reference drawings.

Many, if not most of us use a custom scale factor in our day to day
surveying activities, such as state plane. Practically all data
collectors support this ability. It would be nice to be able to input a
custom scale factor for a job so that all distance commands, such as
inversing, offseting, inputting deed descriptions and road alignments,
would be relative to this scale. None of the cadd programs that I have
used have this feature.

While my programming experience has been limited to simple basic and
lisp programs, it does not seem that it would be difficult to
incorporate this into carlson survey. I believe you could gain some new
clients, and a thousand "attaboys" from current users.

Are you are talking about a surface/grid scale factor like 0.999981547?

None of the cadd programs that I have
used have this feature.

I know of at least two.

Yes, I'm talking about a grid to ground scale factor, like 0.999981547.

I don't doubt there are packages that will do that, I've just never
used one. It seems like it would be easy to program that into a
package, but I'm not a programmer. I used eagle point / autocad prior
to carlson. I've also used inroads and microstation, which might have
had that ability, but I wasn't familiar enough with the programs to
know. It would be nice to see this in a future release of carlson.

Terry,

The XREF command is in Carlson Survey 2004, type in xref on the command
line.

As for the grid to ground, take a look at the scale point command to assign
a scale factor to the coordinate file. Also when you process a rw5 file
using Edit Process Raw Data, there is an option to apply a scale factor when
processing. Take a look at these options and see if they don't meet your
needs.

The XREF command is in Carlson Survey 2004,
type in xref on the command line.

I get "unknown command" in ours (dated Oct 2003). Is XREF a part of the
version on the site dated June 25, 2004?

David,
Yes, XREF works in the 6/25/04 build at
http://update.carlsonsw.com/updates.php . Be sure to back up your data
before installing because you need to uninstall the old version, delete the
C:\Program Files\Carlson Software 2004 directory, and then reinstall the new
version.
