Dropping out of model space

I use the layout tab to setup working spaces where layers are controlled
more easily. I do a lot of calculations whilst siting in model space within
a layout tab. In a variety of situations I might do an operation such as
extend a line and the cursor will jump out into paper space. Part of the
linework I have been working on will appear at a point remote from the
drawing area. I simply perform a few undoes to rectify the problem. I am
wondering if anyone else has this problem or is it unique to way I have my
settings

I think your situation is unique, or at least I've never had this to

happen. Sometimes the line will disappear when using the extender
command, but I've never had it to jump into paper space.

It is mainly when I use the extender command when it happens. When it
happens it shows on the bottom tab it is in paper space and the cursor is
siting in an area outside of the drawing area. You have to use undo to get
back. I have found some other operations have behaved in a similar manner
but I have not noted which ones. When it happens using extender I find I
have to go back to model tab to complete the operation.
