Terry, I will address both of your posts in this response.
The cost of the internal bluetooth option is $400.
Whether you need Roads or not really depends upon the type of work you
do. Obviously if you are designing roads and any other feature like
parking lots, ditches etc., then Roads would be a necessity. If
boundary location and stakeout work is your main scope of work, then
Roads would not be required.
Roads does not contain all the same features of Survey. For example,
the annotation tools within Survey are not contained in Roads. So if
you need to create a complete survey plat, Roads would not be my choice.
If you need to have the ability to do both design work and boundary
survey work, then a combination package of both Survey and Roads would
be the way to go. This is entirely your choice and if you are not sure
as to your needs for the Roads package, chances are you probably could
get by with just Carlson Survey.
There isn't a upgrade path from Survey to Roads. I don't really think
you could call that move an upgrade as they are two different programs
designed for two different surveying and design disciplines. I am sure
that if the time came and you wanted to make this move, we could work
something out. However, I don't think I have ever had anyone trade in a
Survey for a Roads package.
I am not sure if you are referring to the upgrade as the purchase of
Carlson Roads, or if you are referring to Carlson Survey 2006. If you
have Survey 2004 now, when you install Survey 2006 you should uninstall
Survey 2004.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

Another question: Will I be able to keep the 2004 Survey module on my
computer after the upgrade (at least for a while), or will it overwrite
or disable it?
thanks again.

OK, I've kicked the tires on Carlson Survey 2006 (read & re-read the
docs) and I'm ready to drive it home with me. Anxiously awaiting the
release date. I also plan on purchasing a Carlson Explorer data
collector with the Roading option to complement my Carlson desktop
software. Can you tell me if and how much a factory installed
internal wireless option (bluetooth) would be? I understand that this
is available through an SD card, but I would like to reserve the SD
card slot for data storage.
I'm still undecided if I need the additional functions of Carlson
Roads desktop. Does Roads have all the same features of Survey, or
would I need a separate package? Is there an option to upgrade from
Carlson Survey 2004 to Roads 2006? If so, how much?
I would like to thank each of you at Carlson for a great product and
support.
