Tin files

Postby GeoTrek » Thu Nov 01, 2007 6:38 pm

I have a xyz text file (large). I have created a carlson grd file.

to do most of the road commands (design road profile) carlson requires a tin or flt.

how do I convert either xyz or preferably grd to tin or flt?

GeoTrek,

I would draw the 3d grid file on the screen and then triangulate and contour from the grid. Make sure and check on use selection options and select 3d faces for his to work.

thats a bit of a problem given the size of the files (1m Lidar data that covers about 4 square miles)

Maybe you need to reduce the size of the grid with grid file utilities. The only other option would be the point cloud module for Autocad. It should be able to handle these size files.

Thank,
what i did was use "triangulate and contour" without drawing contours and selected "write triangulation file" and specified the selection option as xyz ascii file.

Took a bit but it worked.
