Multi Point Symbols

Postby mkearins » Fri Dec 14, 2007 12:51 am

I am trying to insert a multi point symbol using field to finish in Carlson Survey 2007

When coding a multi point symbol the manual explains:

The first code point is used as the first symbol insertion point.
The "2ND" code is used to specify the second symbol insertion point. A point number can follow the "2ND" to identify a specific point.
*Otherwise without the point number, the program will use the next point with the current code.

eg)
Pt# Code
1 CAR 2ND
5 CAR

should insert the multi-point symbol for "CAR" rotated and
scaled between the insertion points

*It is this function that I cannot get to work. If a point number does not follow the "2ND" then the multi-point symbol will not be inserted, instead a single point symbol is inserted at both the first point and the "2ND' point.

However if the point number is added after the "2ND" the multi-point symbol is inserted correctly.
eg)
Pt# Code
1 CAR 2ND5
5 CAR

Has anyone had any experience with this problem and know of a solutution?

Cheers

Have you tried just CAR on the first shot as the description and CAR 2ND on the second shot description? I have not used the point numbers to make this work, just the code and then the next code following with a 2nd should make it work.

Thanks for your prompt response unfortunately it was as clear in its instructions as the manual is on this matter.
After some experimentation the code works in the following situation

pt#,N,E,R.grate 2nd
pt#,N,E,R.grate 2nd

This is not the way the manual or your response would understand the method of use to be.

I did some checking and the proper way to make it rotate and scale would be to use GRATE 2ND 3RD on the first shot then take 2 additional shots on it with just GRATE as the code. Once the 2ND and 3RD code has been issued it looks two more times for the desc. of GRATE to fulfill those commands.

Multi Point symbols

Oh what a difference a year makes. That is the method described in the manual. I had been using that along with 2nd command only and I was not getting any result. Now it seems to work fine. I had tried it on three different machines with the same results. I will monitor it for any further problems.

Multi Point Symbols

Postby ColC » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:26 am

I sense our problem is related to the fld2fin.ini file in the user directory. On one of my machines the same problem as stated in our earlier posts occurred. Then for no apparent reason, the routine operates in accordance with the manual. In the \User directory a new fld2fin.ini file had been created. I am just guessing this is related.

Now I have another problem related to the same issue. I have created a multi point symbol which operates correctly in 2007. However, when I run it in 2008 get the following error
Block BRICKWALL references itself
Symbol BRICKWALL failed to be inserted

this occurs for both f2F and insert multi point symbols.

Any suggestions aoppreciated.

I have seen some trouble with the FLD2FIN.INI here lately and deleting it and letting it create a new one seems to resolve issues like this.
