Is there a way to mask you text to hide what is behind it? And if so how do
you format it?

Toby this ability is not available in Carlson Survey. I have already
requested that this be added to the program. I don't know how much good
it will do but i will continue to request this and hopefully we will get it.

This might help.

Set colour 255 in your plot style file (*.ctb) to
Colour -use object colour & Fill style -solid
Select a rectangle or similar fig and hatch with colour at 255, use solid as
the pattern
Under view chose send to back for the hatch and the linework and drawing you
want to hide
Select send to front for the text.

It is a very touchy operation and requires some trial and error. It is best
to have the hatch in its own layer and likeise the text.
