What would cause my .CRD description to differ from my Drawing Description?

I have this description in my crd file: OAK 12
in my drawing i have: OAK

my crd file: PECAN 18 20 20
my drawing: PECAN 20 20

my crd file: COTTONWOOD 20 12 20
my drawing: COTTONWOOD 20 12 20

It seems like it only effects numbers 1 & 10-19 when following the description?
