I note that in some cases after setting a drawing's ltscale to 1 for some
reason the program changes it to some other unusal amount such as 25 or 400
(!)

Any ideas what may be causing this?

We have noticed that problem as well if you set your Drawing Scale..
(Settings, Drawing Setup) to 1 it will stay there.
