freezing point layer leaving seperate symbol layer

Carlson Survey 2009 Standalone (embedded ACAD)

I have seperate layers for point sybols set up in F2F for some codes. For example, a point coded PP will have the pt#, pt desc, and pt elev on the normal "point" default layers, but draw a power pole symbol on the utility layer. I have always been able to use the freeze layer command and pick on any of the point attributes besides the symbol, and it will freeze the point layer leaving the utility layer and my power pole symbol thawed.

However, upon installing 2009 from 2008, when I do the above, it freezes the utility layer as well. I can pick on just the point description and it freezes my all of the point attributes and the entire utility layer. I went back to 2008 and everything works fine. I can use the same F2F file in 08 and it works.

I have gone throught every setting that I am aware of and there seems to be no difference in the 08 and 09 settings.

Any ideas?

umm, I looked three posts down and found the same question posted. CTRL+A works.
