"polyline of death" causes fatal error

Carlson Survey 2009 Embedded AutoCAD

Sometimes I open a drawing containing what I am calling a "polyline of death." I can copy it, move it, modify its benign attributes (layer, color, width, etc.), but if I try to change its geometry (trim, extend, stretch, delete, etc.), I encounter the "Carlson Software Error Aborting" dialog box with "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading (hex address) Exception at (hex address).

This only happens occasionally, but it has ruined enough drawings to be bothersome. Thus far, my redneck workaround is to move the offending polyline out of my primary work area, or put it on the viewport layer, so it won't print.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried running an AUDIT? Type AUDIT at the command line and tell it Yes whem prompted to fix errors. If this doesn't help, try inserting the drawing into a new empty file. Let me know if you're still having the problem after trying this, thx.
