Edit-process raw data question

Postby Surveyor_Tim » Mon Aug 09, 2010 11:21 pm

I have a field crew that is not using the best practices in the field. They are shooting the backsight as a sideshot after setting zero as a check. The problem is that they are using the same point number. I understand that they are not overwriting the coordinates in the collector but I have told them to stop.

When I process the raw data in Carlson it overwrites the stored coordinate for the backsight.

How can I prevent this in the files they have already collected?

I have point protect checked and it doesn't help. I don't want to have to edit each file.

I'm surprised the data collector allows them to store two unique points with the same point number?

Either way, have you tried turning the backsight check points to notes? That way you have a record of checking the backsight without messing up the raw data processing. If you want to use them in any kind of traverse correction routine I imagine you would have to renumber them manually.
