Carlson Software Forum

I am a novice - probably closer to a beginner - in the drafting portion of
the office. I have been looking at many different survey programs for my
use. From my research I am leaning in the direction of the CarlsonSurvey
software. I was looking for honest opinions as to the product itself, ease
and understanding of the software, ability to understand all the power and
functions etc. I have 20 yrs in the field and am now taking the step to
take my work from field to finish. Any and all advise and opinions is
greatly appreciated

I still don't have Field to Finish down yet but I use it quite often.

I have used a variety of AutoCAD products including R14, Softdesk 8,
LDD3, LDD2004, and CS2004. By far, IMO the easiest and most productive
software is the Carlson Survey software. It is geared towards surveyors
and has useful tools that surveyors frequently need, but aren't
available in the more expensive (i.e. Autodesk) products. One of these
is change bearing quadrant. This is such a simple, useful tool that
helps with those finishing touches on your plats.
While some functions aren't quite as powerful or feature-rich (e.g. road
profiles, pipe profiles, terrain modeling); they are functional and
relatively straight forward once you get used to them.
I have not used the most recent versions of Land Desktop and Civil
Design, but for the needs of a surveyor, these products are overkill in
many aspects.
Just my opinions, but I would go with Carlson Survey any day for
productive survey drafting.
