When I generate a surface and contours the contour lables do not come out.
I have the box checked to label contours, however when contours are
generated there are no labels only breaks in the contours where the labels
should be. I'm using Carlson 2006.

Sounds like a style/text size problem to me. Check and make sure your
current style is set to a proper height ('st' from the command line),
and that your drawing scale is correct.

Also, I find it is much easier to not label the contours when you
generate contours (small sites only) and then use the contour labeling
option later. Then you don't have to worry about labels being behind
text or other objects. This is not necessarily true for a large site
though. This is just my personal preference though.

How do you have your label dialog set up? What options are toggled on/off?
I am not having the same problem here. Doug does make a good point and
sometimes a font defined with a size will cause a problem. However I wasn't
able to duplicate your problem here. Make sure you are also running the
build date of 8/31/05 for your software.

When using the command
Surface>Contour Utilities>Contour Elevation Label
I found that my text scalar says defaulted to such a tiny size that I could never see a label to troubleshoot. I also found that I needed to specify the layer and text style to make it match the usual company standards.
I can never seem to get the label to land where I want it and have to drag it over later.
