We have TDS Recon collectors and also two Juniper Systems Allegros. The
Allegros run Carlson SurvCE which allows seamless data transfer from office
to field and vice versa. The TDS software has one or two routines that are
very nice in the field, (Inverse Point ot Line for instance) but the data
transfer isn't as smooth. (It actually isn't the data transfer, it's the
conversion from one file format to another, which isn't necessary in the
SurvCE software.) The Allegro is quite a bit more money but has a keyboard
while the Recon is exclusively touchscreen or navigation buttons. I prefer
the Allegro, my field crews tend to prefer the Recons. (They are smaller and
lighter.) They both freeze in extreme cold and cease functioning. Feel
free to e-mail with questions and good luck finding something.
