I've put this request in a couple times already to Bruce Carlson by way of Gary Rosen. Still haven't seen anything yet. But I'm hoping you can develop some type of additional information box under the .tin file dialog box that allows users to add a description to surfaces to give us the opportunity to add a date and brief summary of the surface. I work with a lot of landfill designs and we create numerous surfaces based on phases, lifts and grades, and there's only so much we can do to maintain a small file name.

While you wait on that...

...another option is to go to Windows Explorer, find the file, right-click, choose properties, on the Summary tab, you can add a subject, comments, etc.

Later, when you are browsing for these files, you can turn on the details view, enable the applicable column(s) and see the subject, comments, etc.

You can even make this visible in the "Browse for..." dialog inside of Carlson.
