REGEN Through Viewport

Any particular reason why REGEN does not work through a viewport? I have to deactivate the viewport, regen, then reactivate it to continue working. Is there a setting that will change this?

I believe REGENALL will work with Acad or Icad, but not supported in the standalone acad engine.
