Translate points by elevation

Postby Matthew Timion » Tue Nov 04, 2003 2:36 am

Hello all,

I'm looking for a way to translate only certain points in my CRD file based
on their elevation.

My leader texts are truncated at two digits, so what should be a "100"
elevation is actually "00". This becomes a problem when "99" is right next
to "00".

Is there a way to conditionally change Z values of points in a CRD file
based on an elevation range? (In this case, I'd raise anything between 00 to
40 one hundred feet.

Try the Point Group Manager.

raising the group?

Not to sound like a total SurvCadd moron, but now that I've created a point
group, how do I raise that group?

Looks like this is another command that has not yet implemented the point
group routine...

Uh-oh.....

Please tell me you can specify a point group for normal AutoCAD editing commands....
If so, simple use the move command to move the points in the "Z" axis, then update the CRD from the drawing.

-OR-

As a last resort, run List Points, use the report formatter and User Attributes to create a new column to replace the ELEV column (you can use math in the User Attributes, like ELEV + 2.5). Then export this to Excel, save as an CSV (ASCII) file and reimport this to a CRD. Convoluted, but it will work.

Use "Point Group" with Autocad commands...now that would be great! If
someone knows how to do that, please post your method.

I've been using Point Groups quite a bit since it was released but have
always wondered why it wasn't implemented into more commands. I generally
use a combination of Point Groups and Toolpac routines to get what I need.
Hopefully Carlson will add Point Groups to all selection routines in the
near future.

I've tried this and it doesn't work. When I translate points, it asks for
points to translate and I type: GROUP(low) (where "low" is the name of my
group).

Nothing is translated.

I could export the different groups to different CRD or ASCII files, import
and translate them them seperately, but once again, this takes a little too
long and is impossible to explain to my coworkers. (don't ask)

Uh-oh, not in there huh?
I figured it would take after the '2 and '3 commands that let you use enter a point number in regular AutoCAD commands.
Why wouldn't you want to possibly manipulate a group of points in the same way?
