Setting up points for field crews

Postby Jerry Pinta » Tue Nov 04, 2003 11:12 pm

Hello,

Is there anyone who sets up points in SurvCad from Drawing for field crews
to download into their data collectors?
I am coming from a very friendly program, MicroSurvey, for setting up field
staking. The problem is, this program does not do everything we need it to
do so we are trying to change over to SurvCad completely instead of using 2
programs. I have set up a FTF for layering points based off the description
they are given. Well, to make this short, there are several ways to put
points in. Some ways are slow (pick point on screen) but it puts the node on
the layer defined in FTF. If I use Cogo->Points from entities, it puts
points in faster, but does not use the FTF layering, making it useless to
me. I need to beable to put points on the end point of a line, set the
elevations, then slam in points at an interval along that slope. When doing
this, the points need to be sent to the layers based off their description.
Anyone familiar and proficient enough with setting up staking to answer some
questions for me till I get SurvCad all set up the way we need it here? It
is getting to the point where SurvCad is becoming a program we can do
without. I dont want to see this happen since I know SurvCad is a more
powerfull tool than MS. If you can help me out, please email me at
jerry@dixonsurveying.com
Thanks,
Jerry

Use COGO>Interpolate Points, check Create Points At Endpoints.

Firstly, either set a new crd file to keep the setout points separate, or
change the default point number so that the incoming points can be separated
based on a point number range. Now create your points in whatever fashion,
but if they are on the right layer automatically, you can reinsert them
using F2F (or point insert with Use F2F Layers tagged under point defaults),
specifying just that CRD file or Point number range. This will put them on
the Code Allocated Layer.
You can also export the points based on a point number range, or a group if
you wish.

BTW, if you ask a question in a newsgroup, it will be answered in the
newsgroup.
