Has anyone else noticed that its very difficult to get telephone tech
support these days? I thought Carlson's was supposed to have the best
"free" tech support in the industry.

Their tech support manager recently left. Not sure what effect this has had.

I had a rare occasion this past week to need to use telephone tech support.
Got right through, discussed issue, emailed files, received fix within a few
days.

What difficulties are you having?

Trying to get some tech support on menu (cui files) on autocad map /
survcadd. They used to have a guy there that could walk you right through
these problems. I can't remember his name. They tried to get me some help
but all that happened was that I was bounced around from person to person
until they just gave up.

Coincidentally, my call to tech support this morning was concerning .cui files. I was told that "noone there" creates custom toolbars, they "all" use the default settings. I was trying to get my data paths (where my icons are saved) set properly after creating custom toolbars, because some of my icons were showing up as clouds with question marks. Didn't get to the bottom of it. I thought creating your own custom interface was common, and the option is there, so? I am re-installing my software again so I can start from scratch, but I REALLY don't have the time!!

Heather,

What exactly are you having trouble with? Are these custom commands you have created or are they default icons that just do not appear? What version of the software are you running? What version of AutoCAD are you loading it on top of if applicable? If you are transferring these toolbars from an older CUI to a newly installed programs CUI we might need to recreate the custom icons. If these are default icons that show up as clouds we might just need to reload the CUI. The procedure will be different from the standalone software v/s the add-on.

I am running AutCAD Civil 3D 08 with Carlson 2008 (using Civil, Hydro, Survey). I did not create custom commands, but was having trouble with the default icons appearing on my custom toolbar combinations. Interestingly, the custom ICONS I created did come up on the toolbars, and I was unable to determine what the icons that didn't show up had in common. I ended up trying it one more time - went into the CUI window, clicked "edit" and "save as" again on each of the button icons in question, and THIS time the path was established. The CUI concept was rather confusing to me - I've only been doing this for a couple of years, but never ran into any problems setting up a custom profile before. Not sure if I could do it all again, but it's set up the way I want it. Now if I can figure out the rest of my troubles... WAY too many "aborts"... I'm running a 3.2 GHz processor with 2 G RAM, and I'm not entirely convinced this is cutting it. I and my coworkers have been trouble shooting things for a couple of weeks now, much to the dismay of my company since they just spent $$$ upgrading 6 seats.

Heather,

We should do all profile modifications to the Carlson2008 profile. When Carlson is loaded it will set the Carlson2008 profile as the current profile. We can try to delete the Carlson profile and restart the program. This will recreate the Carlson Profile and restore its defaults, possibly restoring the lost icons. Once in the program set your tool bars as you wish and these changes will be saved to the Carlson2008 profile and will return at startup. Hope this gets your system in order.
