After locating points in a drawing I sometimes will select and change
the
layer of the point properties to another layer (yes, I select all
three
objects of a point). After doing so, I can't seem to purge the layer
that

was on. Why?

I used the Autocad filter command to see if there are other entities
on

particular layer, but there is none. It only seems to be doing this on
Survcadd points. Is there a better way of changing a points layer,
rather
than erasing and relocating the point on the layer that I need? I do
this

change a plat computed point (mon-comp layer) to a monument to be set
point
(mon-set layer).

you insert block1. you insert this block on layer1. in the actual
drawing
file for block1 the drawing might have a node or some object on a
different
layer (layer2). in the drawing you just inserted the block into, there
will
be layer2 until you either erase block1 or explode the block and erase
what
ever is on layer2.

I understand that, but does Survcadd points create a point with a
block
containing an embedded layer? I wouldn't think so. That would mean
that
there would be a block for every different layer that you had a point
on.
Besides, isn't it proper Cad technique to use layer 0 for block
objects

colors of bylayer as well?

What is the best method of changing a points layer then?

You may have already covered this, but here is the problem we had. I
do a
qsave often while in AutoCAD. I assume that each time I save, a block
named
SURVSETV is being created on the current layer. That layer can not be
purged and when I run a filter, it does not find the block. I set my
current layer to "0" and do a qsave. That redefines the layer that
the
SURVSETV is on, and then use the LDEL command to purge my layers.

This may not be your problem but I thought I would toss in my 2 cents.
