Regarding the "display points by window"... this doesn't seem to be that
complicated to me.... the selection window would generate the range of x,y
values to display, and simply display the points in the coordinate file
within the range. We too work with large coordinate files, some projects in
excess of 50k points. It's a pain, unrealistic, to have all the points on
in the drawing. This routine would let you window an area for example, to
display the points in that area. Very helpful for looking for control
points, boundary corners, ect.
Thanks

If you are doing survey work (details, setout, etc) then I would highly
recommend the Carlson product. LDD R2, which I currently use, requires a
great deal of manipulation to achieve what the Carlson product does
simply.
And LDD R3 is a $2000 (Australian)upgrade with only one benefit for
Surveyors, being Autogrouping, which is nowhere near as good as Buds
(which
is only $200 Aust).
I'm snooping in this newsgroup 'cause I'm still thinking of going to
Carlson
even with the amout of money invested in LDD.
My 2c worth.

layer manager is part of express tools...
but vanilla AutoCAD has layer states and draw order built into the
program.
as for your other quests... i have no idea...

| I'm thinking of switching from softdesk to SurvCAD. I am trying it
out
with
| Map5 and the latest version of SurvCAD. One of the things that I
can't
find
| is the routine to "display points by window" when points are not
displayed
| on the screen. We seem to use this quite a bit in drafting mode,
when
you
| don't want all the points displayed on the screen. In softdesk you
could
| just specify an area and it would show you the points in the
database
in
| that area, very handy for finding the description of a boundary
corner
| without turning on the points...
|
| Another is the "Selection Set" routine. This pulled up a dialogue
box
and
| let you pick which entities, like layer, block, text, style, ect.
Then
| clicking on build and those entities that matched your choices would
be
| added to the current selection set. Is there anything like that
here?
|
| One other is the layer manager and draworder. I think this stuff
may
have
| actually been part of the "Bonus Menu" or "Express Tools". Is there
| anything like this in Map5?
|
| Thanks for you time,
| Dave Costner
