Generally speaking, newsgroups are only used when there is a software
problem (IMO). Since there are few software problems, thanks to a great
program, not much is posted here..

I wonder the same thing Dave. I do think that most users must be getting
what they need from the program. But I often come up against some
interesting problems that I think the software can probably help with, I am
just looking for suggestions for approaches from other users. My most
difiicult AutoCAD and Microsoft problems have been solved by other users,
not support staff. Hoperfully, these newsgroups may gradually be used as a
way for users to share knowledge and not just report bugs. Besides, I am
too impatient to post a bug on a newsgroup -- I pick up the phone so someone
can hear me whining.

OK, here's one... I'm trying to "create points from entities". Point
number 2800 and beyond are free in the coordinate file. I have a single
polyline that is about two miles long, and it is the only item in my
selection.

After picking the polyline the routine starts to run, then this. The first
time I set my starting point at 2800, and the second time, below, I set it
to 2850.....

Command: autopnts

Select arcs, faces, points, text, lines and polylines.
Select objects: 1 found

Select objects:

Well Dave. That is a command I haven't used much myself, so I got in there
and played with it a bit. I tried it with several variations. I tried
plines, plines fitted, and I tried an 8 mile long 3dpoly. I started the
point numbering at 3800 just for kicks. It generated 580 points error free.
This may be one of those bugs that we've talked about. If you want to
submit a file, I would give it a try here.

Thanks Michael,

I just found that somehow my drawing units were set to Radians? I set it
back to "Surveyor Units" and tried again, same result.... Exited the
drawing, came back in, checked that the units were set correctly, and it
worked just fine. It is nice to know however, that in the "units" dialogue
box, you now have the option to.... "When inserting blocks into this
drawing, scale them to: "Light Years" (handy eh?)

I can sure use that light years setting. Makes me wonder what kind of
projects are being done with the software. Our surveyors are staying pretty
much inside this solar system.

I have actually done a Polaris observation, but never thought about trying
to get a distance to it..... Now with this feature in AutoCAD.... I wonder
what the elevation would be?
