AutoCAD Message

Postby Dave C. » Fri Aug 09, 2002 12:03 am

I've had this happen the last two days while working in a coordinate file?

---------------------------
AutoCAD Message
---------------------------
Failed to open coordinate file:
g:\geosurv\temp-dcc\xml.crd
File may be read-only or already opened by another.
Read-only files cannot be used. Use Windows
Explorer to make sure file is not read-only.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

No one else is working in this file, and the file is not marked as "read
only".

Thanks,
Dave CO.

I've had this message a few times as well. It also gave this message in CES.
The only time that I've noticed that it does this is when you copy a CRD
file to another one, then when trying to continue work in the original CRD
file you will get this message. I have to close out Survcadd then restart it
to be able to use it. I'm not sure if this is because I'm working off the
file server or if is something in the routine.

I'm working on a file server also, but I seem to get the error most often
after using some of the Coordinate File Utilities, like Update Drawing form
CRD File... and Update CRD File from Drawing....

I don't know that I have actually don this on purpose, but can you have two
people working in the same coordinate file at the same time?

I can duplicate this error by doing the following, although I've had it
happen in other routines as well.

Open drawing file.
Coordinate File Utilities.
Update Drawing file from CRD file.
Click on delete points from drawing that are not in crd file.

---------------------------
AutoCAD Message

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

The CRD file works fine on a reopen, and it is not marked "read only".

Can I post the drawing file and CRD file on the newsgroup?

Thanks,
Dave C.

Dave,

I cannot recreate this problem using the steps you described below. Can you copy your CRD file onto your local hard drive for a few hours and see it this problem still occurs? Since SurvCADD opens and closes the CRD file for each point read/write, it's possible that network speed is a factor here -- meaning that SurvCADD is trying to re-open the CRD file before the last process closes it.
