FIELD TO FINISH WARNING

Postby Harley C. Pawley, PLS » Thu Sep 19, 2002 10:29 pm

I just discovered a problem that some will run across if running both XML
and CES in the same office. We have our standard topocode.fld files on our
server so that everyone's workstation uses the same files easily even after
they've been refined, etc. If you use XML and revise one of these files,
it will render it useless to the CES users from that point on.

I had to revise a file due to the increased options within XML (i.e. Point
Attribute Layout option for each separate code in the .fld file- which, by
the way defaults to layout #1 irregardless of your Point Default settings)
and noticed in WordPad that the format of the file had changed.

As a sidenote, using WordPad to revise your .fld file is much quicker with
find & replace than revising each line seperately within the FTF routine
with XML. Of course, you have to be very careful not to wreak havoc on your
file inadvertently.
