Point Defaults - FTF Options

Postby Harley C. Pawley, PLS » Thu Sep 19, 2002 10:54 pm

I noticed that this option does not seperate the symbol to a distinct layer
as defined in my .fld file, like the manual states it will.

i.e.: Create a point with PGP description in order to place a guy pole
symbol on ex-util-p layer and the node and point attributes on
ex-util-p_pnts layer. When I screen picked a point in the Draw-Locate Points
routine, it placed all 3 in the ex-util-p_pnts layer.

Can anyone duplicate this and/or can we get a fix for this?

I had better results than you are explaining, but there were still issues.
Here are my settings and results:

We have a code named DTREE for deciduous trees. Seperate Layers is set to
'Both'
Set Seperate Layers is defined as follows...
Point Number Layer: PNTNO
Point Elevation Layer: vegetationELEV
Point Description Layer: vegetationDESC
Symbol Layer: vegetation

When setting point defaults I turned on Use Field to Finish for Symbols and
for Layers.

With Seperate Layers set to "None" I placed a point using Pick Screen and
gave a description of DTREE.
It displayed the correct symbol and the elements were placed on the
following layers...
Point Number Layer: PNTNO
Point Elevation Layer: PNTELEV
Point Description Layer: PNTDESC
Symbol Layer: vegetation

I attempted placing another point using Seperate Layers = "Both" Because of
the similarities in our layer setup, and the layer naming "Both" uses, the
results were better, but not great, and a new error of sorts appeared. The
elements were placed as follows...
Point Number Layer: vegetationNO
Point Elevation Layer: vegetationELEV
Point Description Layer: vegetationDESC
Symbol Layer: vegetationMARKMARK

Not a typo above, the symbol appeared on layer 'vegetationMARKMARK'. (?????)
Also the symbol, while being the correct symbol, inherited the layer
defaults for 'vegetationMARKMARK', which did not match our settings for
layer 'vegetation'.

Obviously this routine is not working as it should. Hope this helps you and
I hope this helps the guys at Carlson when they read it.
