Contour Label Breaks

Is there a way to control the distance a contour is broken when labeling?

We feel the default trims too much. I have not been able to find a setting
that controls this offset from the text.

I agree. I've been looking for this feature too. "Breaking" is unusable in
its current condition. This is the same complaint I have with the curve and
line data charts. There is no way to specify column width (which is very
simple to program), consequently there is as much white space after the
number as there is for the number itself. It's the same with contour
breaking, it must be done manually.
