Attributes partially disappear

Win98se, SurvCADD XML

Since I upgraded to XML, the slash character and any notation behind it
disappears on screen. I can edit the coord file and see that the info is
still there, you just can't see it on screen. We use multiple codes, which
has not been a problem yet. Am I doing something wrong?

Perhaps I should explain further. The notation behind the slash does seem to
be there. Only the slash is missing! This is a BIG problem because: I may
need to update the coord file from screen and run another Field To Finish
for whatever reason (this has happened). I can no longer run FTF because the
"/" is missing. This causes the program to put ALL CODED LINES of data that
have a "/(note)" on the current layer with a lot of ???? in the desc. In
other words, it doesn't know how to process the code. With the slash
missing, it thinks it is a code that is not listed in my FLD file.

Here is an original code example of a 5' wide SideWalk that starts at a
certain point on the Back of Curb:

BC2 SW9/5' wide

Here is the same code processed with FTF on SCREEN:

BC2 SW 5' wide

The program will now see the 5' and the wide as a multiple code it does not
have in the FLD file.
This has only happened since I upgraded to XML. Help!!
