Takes hours to triangulate

Postby Matthew Timion » Tue Jul 01, 2003 8:58 pm

I work in creating 3d models for precise grade control. I've found SurvCADD
to be extremely helpful and powerful in this regard. The only thing that
SurvCADD seems to lack is it's ability to create triangles quickly.

There is one particular job that literally takes 3-4 hours to triangulate.
other jobs take an excess of 30 minutes (depending on size and number of
vertexes in job). I've also imported the linework into Sitevision Office
(which some graders use to transfer models to their dozers) and found that
Sitevision could take the same job that took me 3-4 hours to triangulate and
would triangulate it in literally 30 seconds.

Is there something that I'm missing? Is there a faster way to create
triangle files within SurvCADD? I am currently using the command "TRI" and
using inclusion/exclusion lines.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Mathew,
You may want to reduce the verticies in your polylines, if you are
triangulating from contour lines. You can do this by going to
EDIT>Polylines Utilities>Reduce Verticies. Each vertex on a polyline is
used when you triangulate, so reducing the number will speed up the process.
