I have found that panning the display in the middle of some commands clears
temporary markers that are placed by the command. Why are they cleared?

I understand that the transparent pan does this - but is this something that
Carlson should fix?
(I know the lisp function "grdraw" doesn't like panning either)

Your second paragraph answers the question in your first paragraph.
Changing the view executes a redraw, which clears temporary vectors. That is 'as designed' by Autodesk. I would not necessarily call this something that needs 'fixed'.

What I was attempting to put forward was ... the program shouldn't clear the
objects after a transparent pan. Wouldn't you agree?
(there are other ways of placing temporary markers)
