Locking the .CRD Files

Is there a way to lock the .CRD lifes so that only certain people can write
to them.

I have tried this by limiting the read and write functions on the folder
where we store the .CRD files but when a person with no-write rights opens
the file it give them an error.

The reason for this is that we have non-skilled people that would like to
zoom to point but we do not want to take a chance on them accidently editing
the .CRD file through any type of command. We have the drawing that they
are working in read only but if I do the same to the .CRD we get an error.

Any Ideas or thoughts on how to make the .CRD file be read-only and still
work is greatly appreciated.

Make a backup of your coordinate file:
Points>CooRDinate File Utilities>Copy/Merge CRD File
Another option:
Points>Export Text/ASCII File
If the .CRD file was changed then you can create the .CRD file using:
Points>Import Text/ASCII File

Instead of a backup, we put the crd on their computer and it "never
comes back" to the server. Sometimes we rename it buy adding their name
to it.

Guys these ways will work but I would rather just have one .CRD file and
Lock it. If we can't have that then we will just have to be very cautious
when using these files. I would hate to have some mix up and use the wrong
..CRD and have things go out to the field wrong.

I think the answer to your original question is no, because SurvCADD
only knows how to open a .CRD file for "read/write" access, not just
"read" access.

Talk to Leonid in the Boston office for the facts, and to suggest your
needs.
